about
"The Wild Fields" was written by Brent Kirby for a Ukrainian war benefit at The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, OH on April 6, 2022. The title of the song is taken from the Donets river area in Eastern Ukraine. This area has been disputed territory for centuries. The lyrics reflect some of the early media images of the conflict. A Ukrainian woman shoving sunflower seeds into the pockets of Russian soldiers, women and children fleeing the country on trains, a holocaust survivor being killed, along with President Zelensky's words.
Brent Kirby is a songwriter from Cleveland, OH and in addition to his solo
material, he plays with Jack Fords, Ohio City Singers, Doug McKean & The Stuntmen, and The New Soft Shoe, a Gram Parsons cover band. Kirby has been awarded Best Musician, Best Folk, Best Rock Band, and other nominations from the Cleveland Scene and Cleveland magazine....more
